Thanks to feedback from our parishioners, a vehicle warning sign has now been installed by the Parish Council near to Tappers Cottage.

This follows reports that emergency vehicles were experiencing difficulties navigating the narrow road ahead during urgent call-outs.  The new sign aims to improve awareness and help prevent delays in response times.

A big thank you to everyone who brought this to our attention.

Stokeinteignhead Parish Council will be marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday 8 May 2025.

A day of remembrance and celebration is planned, including a church service, beacon lighting, and more.

All are warmly invited to take part.

Stokeinteignhead Parish Council unveils Budget for 2024/25

Stokeinteignhead Parish Council announces a budget for the upcoming fiscal year that reflects responsibility and community well-being. Notably, the Council had previously maintained a 0% increase for three consecutive years, navigating a challenging economic climate through Covid and the cost-of-living crisis. However, to address the cumulative impact of inflation, an incremental adjustment of 7.11% for a typical Band D council tax property has been agreed for next year.

Residents can expect a modest increase of £5.27 annually, or a mere 44 pence per month, showcasing the Council’s commitment to balancing fiscal prudence with the pressing needs of the community.

Key highlights of the budget include:

1. Rethatching The Linhay and Essential Maintenance: The council prioritises the preservation of local heritage with plans to rethatch The Linhay, coupled with essential maintenance to ensure its longevity.
2. Pools Weir Maintenance: A focus on environmental stewardship is evident with the allocation of funds for the maintenance of Pools Weir, contributing to the preservation, and enhancement of natural assets.
3. Clearance of Silt Traps: In line with environmental responsibility, the budget addresses the vital task of clearing silt traps, and the possibility of enhanced clearance of buddle holes in the absence of regular assistance from principal authorities, promoting sustainable water management.
4. Lobbying Efforts: Stokeinteignhead Parish Council is committed to advocating for the community’s interests by actively engaging with Devon and Teignbridge authorities to address local concerns, such as Planning and Highways matters.
5. Flood Mitigation Measures: The council acknowledges the importance of proactive measures, allocating resources for initiatives aimed at mitigating flood risks within the community.
6. Emergency Response Provision: A crucial component of the budget is dedicated to emergency response provisions, ensuring the community’s preparedness and resilience in unforeseen circumstances.
7. Civic Events: Stokeinteignhead residents can look forward to meaningful civic events, including remembrance, and Christmas celebrations, fostering community spirit and unity.
8. Cemetery Reserve:  saving monies for the potential need to provide additional burial space within the Parish as and when the Parish Church can no longer meet requirements.

In unveiling this budget, Stokeinteignhead Parish Council reaffirms its commitment to responsible governance, community well-being, and the sustainable development of its vibrant and resilient community.

Chairman of the Parish Council, Councillor Karl Pedersen said: 

“The Parish Council has been mindful over the previous three years as to the effects of covid and the cost-of-living crisis and kept the precept at a standstill, however the Council is not immune to rising costs and now is the time to make a small increase to prevent larger ones in the future. The Council continues to deliver for the community and the agreed budget for next year enables this to be sustained”.
